theves -

the recording started seven years ago with a microphone, an eight-track mixer and a keyboard. since then, more instruments have been added, some have been replaced but the ones that remain are being used to complete an incomplete library of works that has been years in the making. many groups and musicians should be credited for the education of theves. starting with the british punk-rock/post-punk movement in the eighties with bands such as the smiths, joy division/new order and the stone roses. bands like the cure, bauhaus and echo & the bunnymen would be influential in the transition between punk-rock and the brit-pop generation that would be the most inspirational. oasis, blur, the verve and more notably radiohead were the bands that encouraged many hours of being poised by the tape-deck waiting to record the next song for the perfect mix-tape that would provide hours of material to pound out the power-chords too. although all of the songs from theves are original compositions, elements from all of the aforementioned groups can be heard in the music of theves. the past seven years have been riddled with spurts of writers block. frustration mounting when the songs begun to sound more and more like the songs that inspired them. thus became the name theves, because if you're going to thieve, thieve from the best. there is no explanation as to why the "i" has been excluded from the name.

theves is the solo project of andrew halliwell, all songs are original works unless noted otherwise.
